A much more recent, and much more bittersweet, piece of history today, zambahs.
When I began rebuilding the Gore Corps back in 2018, one of the first new members of the horde to join us was Rex, who joined us with his zambah Wahahah o the 28th of August 2018: https://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=2296003
Rex was very new to the game. His character was not even a month old and having been a lone zambah in Roftwood (a survivor stronghold at that time), he was still only on Level One. We took him in and set about feeding him up to be a mighty slayer of harmanz. He was extremely grateful for the support that we gave him in those early days and passionately took those lessons forward, always diligently seeking to feed any other low level players who joined us and reminding more ’enthusiastic’ players when there was feeding afoot, to not take the kills when they could go to our babahz.
As a part of the RRF and the Gore Corps, Rex helped us turn Roftwood, Stanbury Village and Pimbank into open air zambah dining facilities, as we crushed the Roftwood Coordination Center into the ground and made the south-east of the Greater Homeland into a nightmare for everything that dares breathe.
After just over seven months with us, Rex’s last strike with us was on the 2nd of April 2019. Obviously people drop in and out of this game all the time and most probably don’t even play for seven months. However, Rex was such an enthusiastic presence that we all commented on his absence and hoped for his return.
It was not to be.
On the 3rd of May 2019 a real-life friend of Rex’s contacted me and told me that he had sadly passed away and I had the awful duty of informing the Corps. I also spoke to his brother. The fact that the RRF, the Gore Corps and playing along side us had meant enough to him that friends and family became aware of us and wanted to reach out spoke volumes.
However, we were determined that we were not going to simply mourn his loss. Instead we decided to pay tribute to him in the way that he would have most loved: By holding a massive strike and feeding a brand new zambah, mik.
These are the screenshots of that historic strike.
We still miss you, Rex.
